BUSY BOYS BAND

THE BUSY BOYS BAND
The Busy Boys have been around for a while as a duo.
The core of the Busy Boys has usually been Russell Hull and Brad Grimes.
The Busy Boys BAND concept tonight included Russell and Brad (of course) with the added spice of bass guitar playing genius, Adam Lang and a newcomer - well to my musical circle anyway - on drums in the form of Matt McHugh.

The Boys started with a mellow set kicking off with "Stay Tonight" leading into some Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Paul Kelly etc and finishing set one with Songbird - nice. The harmonies in "Diamonds" (Harper) were quite notably great. The punters were up by mid first song - unusual in such a mellow set but great to see... the flow of the songs was appealing too. A steady build to the more up tempo songs with no annoying chopping and changing, dragging the punters to the dance floor in excitement and then bursting their entertainment bubble and having them vacate the floor again until the next tune.. good planning.

Set two continued with some more favourites, more beats and more dancing Punters. The crowd was loving it.

Set three saw a mic change for Russell and more clarity to his vocals - that was great.. Russell's very unique voice was now more succinct and the whole sound seemed clearer.

Overall the connection between bass and drum (Adam and Matt) was apparent. They obviously know how to keep the flow going and Matt's drumming was not an overbearing consistency. He gave all when needed and air when required - wow - drummers who know how to hold back are more like diamonds than autumn leaves.. Matt is obviously a treasured find.

Brads switching between guitar and keys was also intriguing. He did some great key work and he and Russell did seem to gel well here tonight with the vocal harmonies.

The Busy Boys band are noted in the What's On databases on numerous occasions - you will be catching them at a venue near you soon according to submitted dates. It appears the word has spread already and these are going to be very busy boys..
