CENTRAL COAST CONVOY FOR KIDS |
 CENTRAL COAST CONVOY FOR KIDS:
BREAKING NEWS
The long running Central Coast version of the international event, Convoy For Kids has been canceled indefinitely.
For more than a decade many Coasties have lined the streets to cheer on the big (and smaller) rigs and attended the festivities to raise money for our kids.
Whats On Central Coast has been the only Central Coast website source to make available entry and stall holder registration form downloads and comprehensive information regarding the route, activities, entertainment and reviews for a few years now. It has offered the participants free images of their rigs both on road and on park as a thank you for their generous efforts.
It has been a most willing supporter of this event since our inception in 2004 and we are shocked and saddened at the news.
Our contact for the promotion and registration downloads, Harish Velji from the TWU says “It has been cancelled due to lack of community support”.
When asked if it was just for this year or permanently and why, Harish further added, “Permanently. Raffle tickets etc have been on downwards (turn) for last three years. Not much support from other groups to sell etc”
If there are any organisations out there who would like to take up the baton for this fantastic local event Whats On is most definitely putting their hand up to stay with promotion and online assistance.
There has been a link twixt driving and music for many years. A very important link is the one with John Moran and trucks.
John Moran, generally known as "The Ferret" began writing poetry when he was about thirty and he hasn't put the pen down since. Writer for the largest trucking magazine in Australia - "Truckin' Life" - for seventeen years, John was often referred to as the "best known truckie in Australia".
John is Co-founder and National Ambassador of "Convoy for Kids", and has been inducted into the National Road Transport Hall of Fame. He is also a life-member of eight other convoys around the country.

The Transport Workers Union & Central Coast Sun Weekly Proudly Present The Central Coast Convoy For Kids 2009!
Sunday 9th August, Gosford Showground; Gates Open 9am
This years event, featuring David Russell, Australia’s Greatest Motorcycle Stunt Rider is sure to be another major hit!
David Russell’s Motorcycle stunts include the helicopter jump, multiple car jump, firewall crash, ladder ride, flying angel and assorted wheelie's.
The Central Coast Convoy For Kids is our own local edition of a nationwide (and International) fundraising event to raise funds for local kids in need and is run in early August.
Hundreds of big, medium and small rigs take part in this annual convoy from Tuggerah to Gosford.
With horns blaring, chrome sparkling, streak free glass and almost spit polished rubber these most generous owner drivers and company vehicles give up their time and expensive fuel to be a part of the Central Coast Convoy for Kids.
Registered participants (owner drivers - $25 and company vehicles $50) leave Tuggerah Business Park around 8am and start arriving at Gosford Showground's around 9am where the family fun festivities begin around 10am.
At the showground's there are displays, stalls, rides, face painting, food and all the good things that make the Convoy for Kids a terrific and inexpensive day out for the whole family while raising money for our kids. Admission is by a voluntary gold coin donation while kids under 5 are admitted for free.
As at the 2007 running of the Convoy over $300,000 had been raised for much needed medical equipment and donations to local charities for medical assistance to seriously ill local kids.
This is a huge effort on behalf of our local transport workers. Keep in mind to run a business for profit you buy at a price and sell at a higher price. Very few truckies can purchase fuel, their most needed asset, at a wholesale price and diesel has been much higher than standard fuel for a longer time.
That makes the giving from these drivers all the more generous.
Whats On has the registration forms for VEHICLE PARTICIPATION and STALL HOLDERS online now. Once you download and complete the forms either fax them to 98914953 attention to Harish or EMAIL them to HARISH.
