::: HYPNOSIS: The Entrance Leagues Club, February 19 2005:
Our first visit to The Entrance Leagues Club for quite a while found us a little lost. Renovations were happening and the band not where they usually perform. Following the sound, however, wasn't difficult such was the clarity and the purity of the vocals.
A few things hit me at once. The singer's voice and how it reminded me of someone I couldn't put a name to at that time. I also thought how youthful they both were. We sat a

little ways back as we were arriving unannounced and enjoyed the show from a distance.
It initially appeared the Dean was a little mic shy. From where we were we couldn't hear him well and he seemed a little daunted with his back ups.
Not so, it would seem. An amazing rendition of a Doors song had us thinking they had finished the set and popped on a Doors CD for the break. It was Dean. The likeness to Mr Morrison's voice was incredible.
He blew us away later with the same deal. This time a couple of Neil Diamond classics, Cherry and Granola. Awesome.
Not to be outdone, Bec attends on some songs with a blues harp. Unusual and again the use of extra instruments to offset the magic box syndrome is an added bonus in my book.
Bec's voice is like crystal in it's clarity (still bugging me who she reminds me of) and I could almost sense the power she was keeping in check.
I didn't have to wait too long. Towards the end of the set she unleashed a little of the beast and her mic technique handled it really well. There was obviously still some of the V12 to come. But the V8 was all the room would have withstood.
To hear her on the big stage would complete the portrait of this young lady's talents methinks.
The set list included the "not done to death classics" from days gone by. A little Fleetwood Mac, a great version of 'Take me to the River', Santa Monica Boulevard and Life as well as the Doors and Neil Diamond I mentioned earlier.
Bec and Dean have an appealing light and effects show to add the mood to the night.
A conversation later revealed an alter ego original work duo under the banner of Bubkiss. Quite different from what they play here and Bec and Dean have kindly sent in a demo CD for review.
That will be posted here in the near future.
So far it sounds great.
Oh and the artist's voice Bec sometimes reminded me of (as my daughter so kindly noted) was Kylie Minogue, thanks Kel.
