THE REVIEW |
OPEN FIRE:
Consists of Danielle McIver on vocals and Steve Smillie on guitar.
They play a mixture of acoustic style music through to up tempo classic rock dance music that can cater for any function from corporate, wedding, pub or club gig. Danielle’s amazing vocal ability and Steve’s guitar work blend perfectly together. All done with a fun and very professional attitude.
Dani has worked in the music industry as a professional performer and vocal instructor for 26 years, with extended professional engagements throughout Australia and overseas. She has toured professionally with Jackie Love from the age of 14, working with the leading lights of the Australian and international music scenes, such as; Sami Davis Jr and his orchestra, Tommy Tico and his orchestra, Geoff Harvey and his orchestra, Doug Parkinson, Todd McKinney, Simon Gallagher, Rhonda Birchmore, John Farnham and many more. Dani can be found around the Central Coast most weekends performing in the duo Open Fire.
Steve has been a guitarist performing professionally from the early 70,s. Steve has played in many bands over the years including; 9 piece show band Now for the Weather, and rock band Strawberry Blonde. Steve has had the duo Open Fire going for more than 20 years which is currently enjoying enthusiastic success at many high profile venues. THE REVIEW |
OPEN FIRE : Bateau Bay Hotel, 29.10.05:
Comes a time... Finally I had the golden opportunity to catch the elusive Open Fire duo of Steve Smillie and Marty Cobcroft at a live and local gig.
Playing to a full house plus more at the Bateau Bay Hotel on Saturday night there was not a visible still bod in the vicinity of sound.
Although the usual standard pub covers are in the set lists there are also a few well known but not quite number ones thrown in for a very welcome variety.
A great version of Robben Fords' "Talk to Your Daughter" was not only a great sample of the combined talents of these two great guitarists but also an inkling into the vocal talents of Marty Cobcroft (where HAVE we heard that name before?)
After a huge and extremely eventful day, I (sadly) left after the second set and the crowd was set to be even more entertained by the oncoming crescendo of the third set.
Steve and Marty gel well as a duo. They are entertaining and both extremely talented and professional.
I don't believe there is an "Open Fire" CD available but both Steve and Marty have solo albums available for purchase from their gigs. |

SIMONE HARTMAN;
Simone’s powerful, versatile and soulful voice has evolved from twenty years of hard work and dedication to music.
From the tender age of seven, Simone began playing guitar and singing, influenced by her musician father and uncle. It became apparent that she had an unusual gift.
At sixteen, she became resident lead-singer in the “Mingara Showband,” supporting such international acts as “ The Deltones”, “The Shadows”, and “ Martin Lass”.
She was also involved in recording and performing with “ The McCormack Brothers Band” during this time.
Simone majored in music during her H.S.C., has had extensive training in classical and contemporary voice production and currently tutors private students.
Her first solo recording, “Silent Night”, in conjunction with the 2GO/2WS Christmas Album, received regular radio airplay.
Simone has performed on national television, with successes on “Star Search” and “New Faces”.
She has worked in many well-known duos including “Communique”, “The Hartman Duo” and more recently, “Open Fire”.
She was lead-vocalist in seven piece covers band “Strawb’ry Blonde”, and in 2001, formed her own band, “Crimson Charm” that recorded original material written by Simone.
Additionally, special guest appearances with “Phil Emmanuel” and “The Nevilles”.
For the past two years, Simone has traveled extensively with “Paul Wayne” in the “Kenny Rogers Experience” show, playing all the major clubs in Sydney and N.S.W.
An enigmatic performer, strong and polished, she is currently recording an album of original material, due for release later this year.
Offering a diverse repertoire to please all ages and tastes, Simone is just as much at home playing ambient, acoustic guitar material as she is rocking the night away with funk, dance, jazz, country, rock, blues or R&B.
Whatever the mood or occasion, Simone will deliver her special magic. |
