::: ROLLERGIRL - HALEKULANI BOWLING CLUB:
According to Webster's dictionary, “lazy” means “disinclined to exertion; slothful”. And yes after a hard week, this can be the case. It has now been redefined: “lazy” according to the What's On dictionary means ‘”the fantastic time you will have when you least expect it, especially if you are lucky enough to be exerting yourself to get to a gig by ‘the best cover band on the coast' Rollergirl”.
Sure, you've heard of them. They've played so many places for so long - for good reason! They are worth dragging yourself out that door for! If laughter be the best medicine then music is the cure and this exceptionally, tight and talented band have the degree to cure the mood.
The band is fronted by Corrie. The vocal capabilities of this young lady are awesome. Her brother Paul on bass, who also sings (was that Doc Neeson I saw), adds a touch of humour and showmanship to his talents as a bassist. Other brother Adam, with the cute socks, has his own unique style and dexterity, keeping the rhythm and adding some vocals as well. Dave Power (ex Porkers) rounds off the quartet with some nimble-fingered guitar talents and a voice that will take you unawares.
The set list: captivating crescendo is a term that comes to mind. Once you are on that dance floor they have you; with each “next song” getting better and better. You can think, “OK, one more and I'll sit down”, but it doesn't happen. I have seen many a gig when the band has the audience roped and tied and then lets them go. Not Rollergirl!
When you think you can see nothing to top this, out jumps Adam from behind the kit, Corrie grabs the sticks and jumps in his place. You're thinknig, "no way". The first couple of notes of “Wild thing” starts - Adam goes off, the crowd goes wild and lil Corrie is there doing a Gene Kreuper on the skins!
But wait, there's more…
Time to go home? Not on your life. Now these guys have played all night, and notably, some of the longest sets I have heard any band play. They too, have all had a normal day. Working and doing all the chores humans do. But we want more and they delivered. House lights back to the off position, leads reinserted and... encore
They are a peoples band. They play, not so much at you but to you. There is a connection to the audience. These are entertainers in a band that know just how to grab you and not let go. Confirmation was complete when I heard the question: where are you playing next? And I for one can't wait to see them again. As for laziness? Not from where we stood!
Thank's for a great night Rollergirl.
