SUMMERLAND KINGS:
The Summerland Kings are an eclectic, 5 piece, good time band with just the one goal. Get Happy!; And when people are tapping along, singing along, having a good time and up dancing, the Kings are one happy band.


In their early days the Kings leaned toward Jump/Swing in the style of Louis Jordan and T-Bone Walker (Caldonia is still one of their favoured numbers!). Then Bob Morton (son of Tex) came over from Perth and brought in a great country/ blues harmonica style that sent them towards the Blues Brothers influenced ‘Sweet home Chicago’ as well as hillbilly two-steps like his dad Tex's "I'll be hanged".

When Roscoe McGregor (Tamworth Star search winner) brought his front line vocals in they took an interesting country/rock direction and added songs from, among others, Alan Jackson, Reg Lindsay, Dwight Yoakam & Lee Kernaghan.

Then Mal Wood joined, on guitar and pedal steel, and they picked up the explosiveness of his blues playing, his Tamworth experience on pedal steel and his great ability to play any requests.

Tezz Carlan on bass/guitar & mandolin, continues to swing the blues and search for nuances in rock 'n roll numbers while Dave Rowe, on drums, takes the beat up the middle and keeps the groove sacred.
Together, they kick in the rhythmic pulse that keeps this fine band jumping.

The Summerland Kings now cover the sort of variety you could only get from 5 musicians who’ve come from widely differing backgrounds .. and the creative pull ensures that what makes it to the set list is all good!

There’s a lot of music to be played and enjoyed and when the Kings were younger they may not have understood the beauty and joy that the whole, wide spectrum of music can bring. However, like the finest of whiskies, they’ve aged, their tastes have matured … and they are now one very tasty, enjoyable and satisfying blend! That blend has produced some great original Summerland King songs as well.

The boys were built to make music, and have fun, and this band has that wonderful knack of appealing to a wide range of ages and stages and keeping everyone happy!
And with five singers and the five different temperaments of the Summerland Kings you’ve always got a surprise in store … always … and that’s another good thing.

Dave "The BEAT" Rowe was born to play drums. Dave is the rock solid backbone of this fine band.
